:icondacipher:

my contribution to DACipher's 2011 grand release

:iconsparklyplz::iconsparklyplz::iconsparklyplz::iconsparklyplz::iconsparklyplz:

It is not at all a custom of mine to publicly share work-in-progresses of work that is not yet complete. However in this instance I think that what went into one of the key elements in this piece makes for a good walkthrough, and with DACipher in mind, who are awesome, I thought "why not?"

Those of you who have followed my work here on dA for a few years or more might recognise this being a redux of an older piece :)

Again, this is a walkthrough, not a tutorial, and the only reason why I submitted this to Resources & Stock Images > Tutorials is because I can't find a more suitable place to put it :blushes:

So thank you for viewing this, and happy 2011 to all of you!

With the progression of artwork and newer techniques that have been developed, many people are always enthralled by the various techniques used to create such breathtaking artwork and designs. Clear signs of artistic talent and skill are immediately brought upon the canvas as ideas and imaginations are slowly immortalized before the artist, resulting in a beautiful composition for both the artistic and their fellow viewers can enjoy forever. But as one gazes upon an artistic composition, one would ask how such a piece came to be, sometimes not just by the various imaginative elements of the mind of the artist, but more specifically the various technical elements used in order to make the piece. What kinds of brushes were used? Is there any specific paper that we should use and various other questions. Well for some pieces the very mechanics can be easily explained with the steps taken to create them, while others may not be as easy. There are some artists who wish to keep more specific techniques to themselves, but will easily grant others a look into how these pieces start off and how they slowly blossom into the exemplary piece that they are today.Figure Work Walkthrough, created by the exuberantly talented `snowmask, grants a view into how she goes through preparation and initial steps into creating her breathtaking paintings.

The first thing that caught my attention is the rather casual air about the tone of the piece. Rather than it feeling more like someone is lecturing the viewer as the piece's steps are revealed to you, it feels more like a simple conversation with the artist herself as she goes through the steps with you. This casual feeling here immediately keeps the attention of other viewers, without them feeling all that intimidated from the concepts presented before them. In fact, others may feel more inclined to utilize the concepts used here due to the fact that the toning here will make these explanations easier to remember for them rather than a "one ear out the other" feeling. In this light, all information is more easily retained; perfect for viewers and even beginning artists who wish to utilize similar techniques into their compositions.

If there's one thing that I could suggest, it would be to refine this style of walkthrough for any future projects. Trust me, this style used gives a lot more appeal than others would think.Having the feeling sitting right next to the artist as they explain their steps calmly and articulately, really makes others want to read these walkthroughs that much more. Perhaps you could even include first impressions for these tools, and how much they impacted your techniques in comparison to what your originally used, while at the same time keeping the walkthrough not too technical. All of these elements could be easily composed and refined; just as the brush strokes that comprise your beautiful paintings.

Walkthroughs can be seen by some as another more technical gateway into the mind of the artist, granting us with a better perspective and new found respect with the artwork the artist creates.Figure Work Walkthrough grants us the exact same privilege as well as keeping a great impression within our minds. With the sights of the creative process going through the viewer's mind, their understanding of the inner machinations of the piece before them becomes that much more of a spectacle for the completed composition. Good work `snowmask! <img src="e.deviantart.net/emoticons/b/b…" width="15" height="15" alt=":D" title=":D (Big Grin)"/>
