A girl in a bunny suit, and her pet, a rubber duckie.
The bunny can't swim but has many places to go.
The duckling can swim but doesn't know of any places to go.
One swims, the other navigates.
Together they embark on their great adventure...

This is a collab between me and ~Nicoh.

I love mixed-medium.
I've always wanted to try something new and original.
So far I've never seen anyone mix blatantly different styles as this.
I just like this idea. I think the mixed-medium suits the concept.
This style is kind of love-or-hate, though.
Some people may feel it doesn't blend too well.
But hey. I think it's cool :]
Nico did all the 3D in here, though. So props to him.

Tools:
Photoshop CS [painted clouds, post-editing]
Illustrator CS [duckling, bunny]
Maya 7 [water, reflections, sky, depth-of-field]
Cintiq 17SX

Links to WIP and closeups [if you even care]:
01. Vector paths;
02. Vector closeup;
03. Vector closeup;
04. Waves' wireframe.

Thank-yous:
~Nicoh, for doing pretty much everything aside from the clouds and the vector;
`blackzer0, ~sonofsanta, *Paulkun, `musicinmyhead and ~eclipsic for looking at WIPs; and
`niteangel, =geckokid and ~Nicoh for consultation/advice.

Cheerio! And thanks for looking.

The water and the clouds are so divine! :aww:

Your such a rad artist, I love mixed media too, so many elements and details, and everything here is so cute!

The reflection of the duck in the water is really lovely too.

Good job the duck is yellow or it would drown along with the bunny.

I like! very nicely done. I usually dislike mixed media like this beacuse it feels like a collage, but here all the elements fit together nicely. The only thing that feels pasted is that the vectors have a drop shadow, it betrays the depth of the image if you're trying to preserve that.

Those waves are beautiful, awesome work Nico!! and Katie the clouds are so cute, like pink cotton candy. Love the colours.

!!

and I like the little story too =]

Great work guys!

Ya it can look really weird. I've had my bad days :P

I cleared up the dropshadow though, compared to the email I sent you. Do you really still see one??

The clouds are kind of *AquaSixio-esque... I did check out a bunch of cloud tutorials, though. Either way they're the first digital clouds I've ever painted, so I'm glad you like :]

Thanks for your help all along <3 encouragement and all that.

I thiiiiiiiiink, overall, I like it. The trouble I suppose is that I've seen some pieces like this - I can't remember where, I think they may have been animated or something, maybe on Nickelodeon - and it's a pretty fine line. This looks fantastic, but most other things would just look weird.
Kinda reminds me of Madagascar, in an obscure way - the style at least - because there's these cute little animated characters, and then the fire looks very realistic - they didn't pull it off there. You did, of course, because you've got an eye for this stuff.

The water part is great, very whimsical, and the characters I think go very nicely. Perhaps a shadow on the water would improve it? I don't think it would matter either way.
The clouds bother me, very little depth, I'm not sure if that was intentional. The colours are definitely good, but the horizon seems too blurred to me - maybe a more defined horizon line would help there.

Overall, it's quite charming. :aww:
