He woke her then
And trembling and obedient
She ate that burning heart out of his hand
Weeping I saw him then depart from me

Hannibal, "Vide Cor Meum"
Dante's La Vita Nuova

One of those very lyrical verses that seem impossible to portray without seeming cliché. One day the idea came to me that perhaps the relationship could be illustrated by that of the moon and the ocean... the ocean's heart being aurora.

If anything, to me she seems more like Selene, the Titan goddess of the moon.

You've picked a really interesting palette for this work. You've gone for cold tones (blue/light blue) for colouring the woman and the dotted background, but you decided to use a hot tone for her eyes... as if they were small flames inside of a statue created with ice.
As for the shape, I love these sinuous lines you've picked to represent the woman. The hair floating in the space as if she was drowning into emptiness. The tear coming out of her eye looks to me as a representation of pain and sadness, but at the same time you drawn a big tear and used a dark shade of blue for it as to give more attention to it, and that sort of make me think about it as a request of help of the woman.
I don't know why but each time I look at your painting I always need to find a meaning into them and I can spend hours looking at them without getting bored!
Amazing artwork as always Katie.

A wonderful interpretation to Dante's poem and you managed it very well to put this words into a painting. Falling in love is a sad event and on her side a prelude to death. Most inspiring is the amazing and wonderful dark background, who presents the universe and the fluidity of her hair goes up to this universe (heaven). The detailed sad expression and the tear who just runs out of her eye gives the whole image a magical feeling. Excellent choice of colours and great work on her soft and gentle skin. A very delicate and astonish calming painting.
The technique and the impact is without words amazing and your originality and vision of such a musical master piece is incredible and out of this world !!!

This is a bit darker in appearance than your other pieces... but in constrast, I find it a lot more calming. So far this is definately my favourite piece of yours you have done... I'm a fan of darker (in colour) pieces.

I adore the detailing you've put into the hair and I just love the aurora detailing.

Simply beautiful. I just love this :)

Hannibal, as in THE Hannibal movie ? and I simply adore the fluidity of the hair - there is something like the motion of waves captured in them which gives her such a ... almost fragile but untamed kind of vibe.

Wow, that is an absolutely magical piece. I love her facial expression and how soft and subtle her skin and position is!

This is simply amazing. Your style is so beautiful, the contrast of colors is fantastic. The watercolors are expertly handled, and the splatters make for a great texture that makes the piece so appealing to the eyes. The hair is lovely as well! I love your art so much.

Love that lives in the heart cannot be so easily terminated by time. Even though the encounter is brief its impression shall last a lifetime. No one can change the direction of love that lives in the heart. If you have loved that in itself is the answer.
