So I'm sure most of you already know that my husband `
zerocomplex and I have gone to see
Speed Racer, IMAX style. What he and I didn't expect, upon arriving 3 hours earlier just in case... is that we would see
Iron Man just to kill time.
And guess what?
Yes.
We were right.
It was horrible.
And no, I'm not trying to "stand out from the crowd" or "put a damper" on what every one has been saying about that flick so far. I'm not trying to start a debate or an argument or anything :
)
It's just... throughout the entire two hours, all that went through my mind was:
1. How the level of creativity that went into the Iron Man story amounts to the collaborated effort of basically... (what's a nicer way to put this?)... "taking inspiration" from elements in both Batman and The Hulk (and I don't even like the latter).
2. There are some really awesome people on dA who have been trying to convince Keith and I to see Iron Man and we really wanted to give it a chance. However, both the story and character just lacked the substance that I look for in a truly good film. Personally, all I thought was... oh... cool... this guy is a really awesome engineer... and... he... fights... and... flies... with a computer?! *gasp*. That... and most mysterious of all... if... a hit was ordered on Stark... why didn't they just kill him when he was captured? In fact... why was he even captured? Wasn't the whole point to kill him? Either I'm too logical... or... I just didn't want to pay attention anymore after the first 45 minutes.
However! We sure did enjoy
Speed Racer... I was on the edge of my seat the whole time. This is indeed the perfect kind of movie for IMAX display; shown in any other format, and it just would not do the film justice. In truth, the story, message, music, casting, and acting... were all incredible... however given the Wachowski Brothers' uncanny ability to just throw the audience into their films' worlds from the get-go... all I really cared about was the racing, and for Speed Racer to win. Talk about a truly fun, psychedelic experience! The overkill-saturated colours, the flashing lights, the lasers... I didn't even know what was going on 80% of the time and yet I was tense and excited every step of the way. Like being on a roller coaster. Just awesome.
Chiko and Perry would have loved it too, I'm sure. Perry loves watching Mariokart Wii. Just so you know :3
Recommended for IMAX only, my two cents. Not even worth getting on Blu-Ray unless you have an insane HD home theatre system.
So yeah.
Up next...
The Dark Knight ALSO IN IMAX :
O !!!! Can't wait.
